Workshop Build

A day on and it’s Looking ok.

Please don’t judge my block laying skills hahaha

The weather has been bad. My blocks have been so heavy and saturated. And perfecting a motor mix using wet sand and mixing in a bucket or wheelbarrow was a pain in the arse.

I know it’s not a conventional bond either and probably isn’t as strong as it could be but it works. Block cuts kept to a minimum.

I had an inch mirror bed in places due to me constantly fighting to keep level but its done the job. My base runs out an inch in one corner too so that didn’t help. Creates a nice pool for my daughter to splash about in though when its rained. Looking forward to getting on with the timber frame now.

Just need some time to myself for a week or so. Maybe Easter. This is the hardest thing about the project... time. Keeping a happy wife and toddler plus work and everything else. Hoping now the days are getting longer that I might get an hour on it after work here and there. We'll see

Timber cost £1050. Was happy with that price in today’s market. But a year ago when I first stated getting quotes it’s was that price including 20 sheets of osb.

I was quoted £1400 to include the osb so shopped around and found some osb seperate on Facebook selling page.

£245 for 20 sheets. Was well chuffed. Saved about £100 in total.

Bought about £150 quids worth of screws, nails, brackets etc from screwfix and iron mongery direct.
Bought a breather membrane off eBay £60. 1.5x50m so should get the whole thing wrapped externally in 1 roll.
Bought a thicker insulated foil backed type of stuff for internally prior to boarding it out. The stuff you see marketed for lofts. Not sure if it will add anything to the build but we’ll see
