The Israeli military claims it has killed or captured 8,000-9,000 Hamas fighters since 7 October.

If that estimate is true then according to American Intelligence, there's about 20-25,000 Hamas fighters left in Gaza. Assuming they won't leave a suicide squad behind to cover their retreat through the tunnels into Egypt.

If there's any truth in the Sinwar story that could see Hamas fall from grace with Palestinians, especially when they see the videos of the millions of dollars lying around in the tunnel where Sinwar was lying low. Seems to be a few non Hamas people positioning themselves to run Gaza,

That's a new tunnel. Israel is said to have an interest in annexing an area all along the Egyptian boarder. In fact it seems to be a declared intent.

Egypt is in an odd position. It doesn't fancy ~5m refugees for a variety of reasons. After a fashion they do have an interest
a Palestinian State was not established. The remaining territories of pre-1948 Palestine, the West Bank - including East Jerusalem- and Gaza Strip, were administered from 1948 till 1967 by Jordan and Egypt, respectively.

In some ways the idea of a Palastinian state goes back to when the UK handled it in a rather odd manner. An Israeli might and some do say that there is no such race. So read the people who lived there. These people have never really had any choice. To me that is the major root reason for all the years of problems. Solutions - looks like more of the same if there is one. The idea of a state is firmly planted in the people concerned. It's what was promised.

The area initially promised was a lot larger than it has finished up and even that has been reduced in the West Bank. 3,000 new settlements of an 8,000 aim have been given the ok.

Seems HAMAS may be involved as well. All sorts are talking to each other. Even the PA who are seen as Israeli toy boys by many Palestinians. That's why HAMAS finished up on top.

Egypt is said to be 'preparing contingency plans' on their side of the border despite fears Israel won’t allow displaced Palestinians to return to Gaza while a refugee exodus would burden its struggling economy and could pose security challenges.

This sort of approach usually means that some other person rises up to replace them. OK if you can bump off all with similar thoughts. Given Israel's repeated attacks of areas that have been "sorted out" I wonder how well they are really doing in this area. A drone strike on a single vehicle in Gaza city was reported yesterday.

Video footage shown of people on AlJ is getting far more like the situation they are describing. People need far more than sacks of flour to survive. Cars still crawl around but maybe they filled up at the correct time. Less of them lately. LOL Ok I listen to the talk but also take in what the clips show. To me it looking far more like what concerned the Hague court - civilisation breaking down. Destruction anyway is such that some aspects of that are now impossible.

Perhaps there is a view that hitting these naughty people hard enough will prevent any of them getting into similar areas ever again. Iraq is an example - has it totally settled down - no but there was rejoicing when that war ended. And a lot of reconstruction.

A pundit mentioned another possible aspect - getting involved in ethnic cleansing of a Muslim race. Egypt wont have the facilities to provide anything other than a rather large refugee camp. They are also denying that they are creating one. Satellite images show use of heavy equipment. They have also been reinforcing the boarder - that one is a fact. Any such camp would be around for years.

Yet another pundit who wants to see a true Palestinian state feels Egypt should cease diplomatic relations with Israel as this might make the USA sit up and take notice. There is a view that a long term fix can only be achieved by giving them a true state. That means they run it as well not as per the West Bank which in real terms is controlled by Israel.

A UN Arab group has popped up who hope to make the security council take action. It didn't look like an effective group to me. The Saudi view on the subject has always been very clear before they will accept Israel. That lot and other similar are perfectly capable of hitting us in our pockets. They have done in the past down to Israeli actions.

Various pundit views, how wonderful it could be years into the future etc. Well pointless until we know how things do finish up.

Biden makes a phone call. I noticed a shortage of bomb attacks in AlJ reporting and repetitive reporting of the same events. Fixed today - more bombs but not on Rafar. Death toll mentioned but TBH I wonder if there is anybody left up north that can provide reliable info.

The Egyptian refuge camp. The idea originated from the USA media. An ex Egyptian somebody was interviewed. He said no it's urban development. A new shot of the scene does show buildings. He then asked the interviewer if he could tell viewers something of interest. Ok she says. He mentioned the Egyptian Israel peace treaty. This includes what Israel can do in the S of the Gaza Strip. It includes troop numbers and equipment. He mentioned area D but I have no idea how big that is. He also reckons that Egypt is prepared to react and has already warned that they will.

The top UN court on Friday rejected a South African request to impose urgent measures to safeguard Rafah in the Gaza Strip, but also stressed that Israel must respect earlier measures imposed late last month at a preliminary stage in a landmark genocide case.

The International Court of Justice said in a statement that the “perilous situation” in Rafah “demands immediate and effective implementation of the provisional measures indicated by the Court in its Order of 26 January 2024, which are applicable throughout the Gaza Strip, including in Rafah, and does not demand the indication of additional provisional measures.”

The world court added that Israel "remains bound to fully comply with its obligations under the Genocide Convention and with the said Order, including by ensuring the safety and security of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.”

South Africa announced Tuesday that it had lodged an “ urgent request ” with the International Court of Justice to consider whether Israel’s military operations targeting the southern Gaza city of Rafah breach provisional orders the court handed down last month in a case alleging genocide.
