Sony singed a deal with LG to use their displays. If you buy a Sony oled, you are watching an LG panel.
What's "isn't listening" about 2 people saying they have not encountered ads and Which? saying they have?Nope me neither TV would have gone back to JL if it had ads. But secure isn't listening as ever.
I've been looking at this chart, which seems to correspond quite well with my experience. My head is almost exactly 12 feet from our 49 inch TV and I can just about notice the difference between Freeview SD (576 vertical) and Freeview HD (1080 vertical). But I can't tell the difference between NOW TV when it's on 720 and when it's on 1080. So, on that basis, I think this chart is showing there would be minimal deterioration between 48 and 55 inch. If I have interpreted it correctly!
No. I think ours is LG (OLED).I'm guessing you have one?
The dopey Which testers probably didn't realise you can turn them off etc.

I guess not all models have this affliction?
Our current 48" Samsung picture quality is OK.
Do you think a 50 or 55" panel will mean a deteriorated image?
andy said don't buy a sony.Built on slave labour
Maybe you're watching it too hardTVs absolutely do not last very long.
I can't see any difference between SD and HD at any distance!I've just checked your current model and it looks like it has Freeview HD. It might be useful to see whether you can tell the difference between the SD and HD versions of the same channel, from your usual seating position. The difference will be exacerbated on a bigger TV.
Also, if you try a new seating position about 15-20% closer to the TV then, according to that chart, it looks like that should roughly mimic the change in size from 48" to 55". If you then try watching an SD Freeview channel and see whether it is still acceptable at that closer distance.
I thought it was just me, not able to tell the difference on my 50". The one thing I do notice when watching SD and HD, is the rolling interference patterns, when the likes of a woven material is in the picture sometimes (name for the effect?).
Moire Patterns is the name I was looking for.
Why not Sony? Bad experiences. I have a non-smart Samsung telly and to get Internet functions onto it I bought a Sony smart DVD player. It was rubbish from the start; it had a limited number of Internet channels and no function to download any more, and as others have said the controls were slow and difficult to use (the fashionable name for this is non-intuitive). After a few months it conked out...went completely dead. With some Googling I found out how to reset it, which brought it back to life, but it kept happening so I took it back for a refund. Why?
My Samsung is about the same age and is still perfect, hence my recommending the brand.Daughters got my old 42 inch samsung 15 year old and still perfect
I have a JVC smart TV, it was a lot cheaper than the big names so I wasn't expecting too much, but it is fine, I can’t fault it.Avoid JVC - a Currys own brand. https://jvcsupport.co.uk/tv-home-audio/
