Congratulations sir kier

If he had an engineering business in the Midlands, he would be planning the closedown date of the company according to the approaching retirement age of the remaining workers.

Don't fret, John. Our future engineers, doctors and physicists are making there way here by dinghy as we speak. (y)

Like wealthy pensioners with houses far beyond what is affordable for many now,

That's down to politics, economics and immigration. The latter you appear to be wholehearetedly behind, so you can't be surprised at the unintended effects it has. Completely beyond the control of people who through luck inhabit houses worth a hundred times what they paid for them.

The point was "groups holding the country to ransom".
I gave some examples.
Do you not agree that wealthy pensioners have had a significant and material effect on the politics of this country?

If only there was some organisation capable of agreeing and upholding rules for profit-hiding and tax-avoiding among numerous countries so they could have fair taxation without being tricked into undercutting each other.
The EU tried the above and failed.
In Irelands case, the EU ordered Ireland to collect 13 billion Euros in taxes from the Apple corporation.
Ireland appealed against the order, the EU highest courts ruled in favour of Ireland.
The Irish aren't as stupid as some would like to believe, they always read the small print in their agreements with the EU.

So although they are in the EU, they have their own laws? And can do what they decide?

Who would have thought it

Makes you wonder what the whole point of the EU is.
Apart from causing war and mass immigration.
So another myth gone.

You can be in the EU and have your own laws and ways of doing things. Just like we had.

The point of the EU? Generally, easy trade to a massive amount of people, locally, with easy to follow agreed standards.

The UK used to pay billions into a club that allowed other countries to facilitate tax evasion for multinationals.
Who would have thought it.
