That's better.
I see you didn't use SMCI - yes the spread is a concern. You can lose an hour's move in a couple of minutes, normally.
Have you changed what you do, at all?
I thought SMCI would go into orbit and maybe NVDA. NVDA didn't, much.
Coin was crazy, and continued after market/results.
Mara was ok at times.
SMCI moves a lot so I sat in that, closing when it turned down.
That was several percent, so fine.

SMCI is nuts. I bought a lump of shares a couple of weeks back. - not far enough back. It will have quadrupled, soon. Mine has only doubled in 2 weeks. I thought NVDA 3 would do even better. It has only doubled in a month - hardly worth the bother.......

They will have to lose a third or half or something soon. Probably when NVDA results come out....

I had been struck by how well markets had quickly bounced off levels that Shawn had put on the note in past days. So, I saw the note a little before the open and started marking up his levels. I didn't have much time before the open and didn't want to miss out. So I thought I'd place small orders and get out of them quickly if they didn't go my way. I would also cancel them within a few minutes if they weren't hit. I was quite busy looking at everything at the open. But bam! Tesla and Coinbase got hit and went rapidly out of the money. I feltthat Coinbase was in an upward trend from the premarket, so I would HODL. But it carried on down. In the end I got out for a £469 loss and £77 on Tesla. A terrible start. A lesson in what I already know - not to listen to the b***s***ers and confident talkers. But it is hard to ignore them, and I was in a rush at the time. I made it all back on Nano X, but not very clever.

Incidentally, Cherif screwed up massively on Nano X, buying when it was really high. I wavered for perhaps a minute longer than I should have done before getting out, but I got a good price.

Yes, listening to Shawn you'd think he gets everything right.

He couldn't have been more wrong on that COIN - it reached his level and went the wrong way.
I would like to think I'd have been looking at the bitcoin price at the same time _ I do that, (wth the others like Mara,) which was dropping fast at the time through about $52000. Wouldn't g'tee I would have been, though. Easy not to.

Usually he gets enough right and he's very fast on several, so he grabs 5 wins and 2 losses oe so. Or if not, the direction for the rest of the day is often right, same ratio. Mortals only follow a couple! Bear in mind he starts with some massive number of shares.
That means the price only has to hit his price going the right direction and continue for a little bit. 20,000 shares moving 10cents, then he's 50% out. That's $5000 cleared, "right there" as he would say.
Once he's mostly out, he leaves the rest hoping it'll carry on to his exit point. Once he gave the numbers, when a stock had gone from 100 to 110 and back to 100. He said he'd given half of it back, or something like that. In other words he was still well up because he's taken profit early. WHy the hell he doesn't sell at 109 on the way down, I can only assume he's learned to stick with his first idea - or it's just his ego . Sometimes he gets asked in the chat (I don't use that) and he says "well I only had 25% left". Still a loss - beats me, when it becomes obvious. He OFTEN closes losses without a murmur.

Sometimes I leave a stop order on the safe side of what he says to get going, with a tightish stoploss, but you may have noticed others on there only ever do nothing off the jump and wait to see where things are going, which his my preferred M.O. .

Safer if there's a some huge catalyst, or the stock has moved up a lot in the premarket so you know which way it's likely to go. Then the odds are highly favourable.
It's so easy to get caught up in what Obi calls "the sauce" when a stock buggers about, chasing it up and down. . Easy to lose doing that so I prefer to set a tight stop , lose a tiny bit then do nothing until it's clear what it's doing. As long as it keeps jittering, leave it alone.
Pre/post market prices are at Nasdaq.com, if your platform doesn't show them (like mine doesn't for most).

When the spread is £100 and the next candle twitch is maybe £800, I tend to get out somewhere near a level rather than waiting for it to test it.

This happens to be on the screen, where SMC was dropping: 16.02.24 20:43
1708196831475.png
There was no strong established level so coming in on a Short, I'd have been out when I saw those 4/5 wicks all at the same price, about the yellow line level. That would do. I'm not keen to wait to see if there's a candle like the one above the orange line. That would have de-risked by sacrificing the last 10-20% of the move between levels (with hindsight). Suits me with such a bonkers stock. That tall blue candle over the orange line is 0.92%, so a potential loss of, errm, £3680 instantaneously, if I was only using that stock.

By the way , does you platform show "levels"? TradingView does if you set it up.

A friend who does stuff with signals he's invented is seeking qudos for predicting the all-time-high, and is expecting it to fall in the next couple of days. I think that's common, which will make it a self-fulfilling prophecy if true.
The NVIDIA results may cause it. It might be fun to be holding some when the results come out. The options traders will have a field day. If the results aren't as stratospheric as some expect then we might see a huge fall, which could drag the market with it. Best not to be holding much of anything!
We've seen crypto rise and I've made use of that, chips also because of AI, and some large changes in gas and oil.

They can all go further but I can't help feeling they've done, until the Next Big Thing.
SO I'm not expecting to be doubling my money in a day again for a while. I've had a ridiculously good run.

Hopefully there will be something like Affirm, which kep going and going, one way then the other.

OH - if you're "up" for it. Namura shipbuilding has been moving even more than usual in Japan 21% then 12% recently, - look at the daily for the last few months.
The P/E is a humble 12, it could go anywhere. It's quite hard to do something safe when it's moving at 5% in a 21 minute candle, though.

IG shows Pivot points. There are probably lots of other levels though. Do you have any particular ones in mind?

IG doesn't have Namura, though trading212, where I've just opened an account, does. I don't think I'll be awake for Japanese trading hours though, so will probably give it a miss, but thanks.

Levels as in support and resistance. TV shows them. there are different ways - like this is one, volume bars shows where deals were done.
1708309224445.png

Namura will probably fo something between midnight at 10 past...
Good thiong abouy T212 is that they pay 5% interest, and FX charge is low. Overnight fees on CFD (swap rates) are egregious.
The funds they have on the INVEST side are often crappy ones, with huge spreads. The only way to find out the spread is to buy the minimum quantity and see what you get.
They are dishonest and incompetent, - think East European dictatorship of old. They are East European.
I could list about a dozen things.... anything they get wrong, is your fault. The site is in my experience set up to catch the unwary, and take a lot of money from you. The default share quantity they have on CFD is 50 - 100% of your pot, and you can't set it to stay - it unsets itself then one day it gets you. The screen is awful, etc etc etc.
If you want to buy and hold, try eToro. The sole reason being that you can use trailing stops on unleveraged investments. I've only used theiir paper trading.

I intend looking at Capital.com or Pepperstone.

(Nothing doing in Japan. btw)

How do you bring up the volume vs price bars as you have done? I had a look around, but couldn't figure it out.

trading212 gets good reviews on Trust Pilot, although I appreciate that can be massaged rather. The fact that they pay 5% interest is rather good. And to be able to trade smaller amounts is good. For the minimum trade size on IG for nvidia I need £7K of margin, which I think is rather a lot. So I'm still inclined to give them a try.

Stuck to the rule to get out of trades promptly if they're not going my way. All those losses add up unfortunately:

Would you have done better if you'd stayed in? Sometimes.... some of the losses would have just got bigger I expect.
There weren't many useful trends.

I had an annoying day. Despite all the crowing, TTV's guidance was hopeless.
Nothing was "trending all day" in the way I look for & I was startlingly unlucky a couple of times. Hey ho.
Plus I was holding a little PanW which was 20% down last I looked. It should come back some.

They have a new "second channel" now. It shows a board with almost nothing of use.

Have you tried T212 yet?
On the CFD side, you might not have noticed the little TP and SL tabs, which you can drag once the trade is open. You need to use the Edit Trade window to add a TSL.
It's a bit crap using the trade window to set them with numbers, though it does tell you the result. For the TSL, copy the "distance" from the SL after you've set it.

I looked atthe ARM 16:26 loss - would have come good in 30 minutes or so. Hard, though, isn't it?
I was long SMC. At 14:55 it turned south. That wouldn't have come right for 5 hours. a 4k loss iirc.

Cross with myself now, SMC and Nvidia dropped like a rock off the open. Should have been ready. Need another 12 screens....

The losses would have got worse, by and large.

I saw that board from the main channel. It seemed to just show the stocks with their entry prices, but not nearly enough detail to tell whether the trades were successful, so I didn't look at it further.

I haven't tried T212, sticking with IG for now. Annoying that they often don't have volume data there, and, consequently, no vwap either.

Are you still long in Nvidia? It sounded from your post on 11 Feb as if you would stay long until the earnings and keep a bit through them.

No I sold the NVIDIA near enoghh to the top - wasn't hard to pull some as the curve flattened. All out now, though it would be fun, maybe(!) to hold 100 shares through the results. A stop sell up above could catch a spike - has happened before.

I had some SMC , which itthe stoploss, high enough. WHat a fall on the Friday , though

Time for a pull back in the chips and highest tech feels likely now. To you too?
The P/E ratios are all crazy. Meta crashed a while back. It came back, but was a shock. Before I was involved.
WOuldn't be silly to ease long term investments to other sectors.

Not forgetting the "short" ETFs, but those need cahoonas.

PanW will be interesting to watch - see if it comes back up, or halves! It's a decent quality cybersecurity co, not junk.

T212 's volume is crap but if you use the pointer with info it does give you a number. There is VWAP on CFD but you have to set the period manually, it's not anchored. AVWAP is on TradingView (free version).

The TTV boys are on Amazon L and Arm SS again.. SMCI can always run - somewhere! Good luck.
Plus BTC of course.
