"Gender" is a word currently being used to describe a feeling, a wish, a fantasy, a pretence.
Gender is a role that people choose to act out in society.
Most people choose to act out their birth sex role. But it's still a role determined by society.
Some don't feel comfortable in that role, so they prefer another more independently determined.
Whatever gender they adopt is recognised in legal circles.
Your view of what gender is, has no validity.

In sport there are eligibility tests to offer a level field of play.
The Algerian boxer was eligible to compete in the Olympics.
You have no idea what sex the Algerian boxer is.
