Wales becomes Trumpton

Nothing like a one sided question to get the answer you want. From the poll Royo quoted.

To what extent, if at all, do you support or oppose the Welsh Government's decision to impose a default 20mph speed limit on roads where cars mix with pedestrians and cyclists?
Where cars mix with pedestrians and cyclists is where the new limit has been introduced, i.e in urban areas.
Do you think it applied to all roads in Wales? I suspect the poll respondents understood it properly.

The new 20mph limit has come into force for all restricted roads, which are defined as ones with lampposts placed not more than 200 yards (about 180m) "apart.first country in the UK to make the speed limit in built-up areas 20mph."

Welsh newspapers falling behind the government, knowing what's good for them then.
Quell surprise.
Laugh of the day Himmy questioning somebody's honesty, as they say you couldn't make it up, perverted or what.

I think it’s laughable that a poll of less than 2000 people is being trumpeted over polls surveying many 1000s of people.

There are dozens of news articles, the backlash is huge. I encourage those who care to do their own research. It’s not my job to provide anyone with anything.

I’m certainly not going to waste my time educating closed minded fools on a here.

Last I knew pedestrians walked on pavement and cars drove on roads and there are plenty of main and arterial roads with street lights subject to the change. Google maps shows them fully.

On the speeds generally...

A friend is a recently retired SW Police traffic Sgt, well versed in accident investigation, and sadly, delivering the worst news to families. He told me that at 40, a fatality is a good probability. At 30, there is a good chance the victim will be bounced off the car. But at 20, many victims will go under the car, with really nasty consequences.

So it's not always only about the speed...

I can't see what all the fuss is about.

30 down to 20 is not a big deal.

Much of ones driving in a 30 is at speeds up to 20.

It's not always about the point of impact, either.

Travelling at a maximum of 20mph should give you more reaction time.

I should imagine he is of the opinion that the motor cycle cop of old should be brought back, would go some way to curbing what we have now drivers who think they're auditioning for whacky races.

That'll be why you only provide your opinion of what you think these article say, rather than providing the articles. And on the rare occason that you do provide the original articles you're proven wrong.

By the way, pedestrians have to cross roads.
And cyclists also use the roads.

So no polls to support your open minded claim.

Because it can be justified where there are vulnerable people such and where the hazards are not immediately obvious. Schools, playgrounds etc. not dual carriageways or main roads away from people.

When it’s a blanket 20 it is routinely ignored, as shown by all the research. Where it is carefully chosen it’s adhered to. The danger of blanket policy is people ignore the well placed limits as well as the bad ones. Humans also pay less attention.

But the real reason, is because “something must be done” and politicians like to be doing “something” even if it doesn’t work.

When it doesn’t work. They do more of it. They commission research to justify it and they cry “think of the children” to anyone who opposes it.

You assume there is no reduction of concentration. Unfortunately humans are easily distracted. When the task doesn’t occupy our full attention we are distracted.

Concentration drops substantially when we are forced to drive slower than the safe speed for the conditions.

I’ve been first on scene in such a case - not pretty. Skull poking through, eyes popped out, brains coming out of the ears. Poor chap was still alive briefly. Run over by a car following him, when he was knocked off his bike. Nobody speeding, but someone was driving too close and not concentrating.
